Sri Lanka–UK trade focus at CBB silver jubilee event

COLOMBO, August 28, 2025 (ePRESS) – The Council for Business with Britain (CBB) of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce celebrated its 25th anniversary with a special event at Westminster House, followed by an exclusive networking session for members at Cinnamon Life. The occasion brought together leading business professionals and stakeholders from the UK–Sri Lanka bilateral business community.

Mark Surgenor, Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Sri Lanka, was re-elected President of the Council. Ameena Ziauddin, President of Norfolk Foods, and Shiluka Goonewardene, Head of Deal Advisory at KPMG Sri Lanka, were re-elected Senior Vice President and Vice President, while Fadhil Jiffry of London Stock Exchange Group Sri Lanka was appointed Treasurer.

The CBB Committee for 2025/26 represents a wide cross-section of Sri Lanka’s corporate sector, including Aitken Spence Travels, De La Rue Lanka, Hayleys Advantis, Hilton Colombo Residences, John Keells Holdings, MAS Holdings, Unilever Sri Lanka, Point to Point Consulting, We Are Team Rocket by Edmeades & Simpson, and Wilton Metal Box Company.

Chief Advisor to the President on Digital Economy, Dr. Hans Wijesuriya, spoke on opportunities from the Government’s National Digital Strategy, focusing on trade, investment, and innovation. British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Andrew Patrick, reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to strengthening bilateral trade and investment ties.

The highlight of the evening was the networking session, where guest speakers included Deputy Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Chathuranga Abeysinghe, British High Commissioner Andrew Patrick, and Somasena Mahadiulwewa, Minister (Commercial) at the Sri Lanka High Commission in London who joined virtually. Charles Rohan de Alwis, Director and General Secretary of the SL-UK Chamber of Commerce, and young leaders from the CBB NextGen program, including Krystal Reid, also addressed the gathering.
