DIGANA, Kandy, Feb 11 (ePRESS) – Sri Lanka’s top ranked amateur golfer Dhanushan Kumar produced two calm and steady rounds to storm into the lead as 17 golfers safely made the cut on Day Two of the Sri Lanka Golf February Ranking Tournament at the Victoria Golf Resort in Digana, Kandy.
Playing on a demanding par-73 course surrounded by hills and tricky winds, Dhanushan returned scores of 76 and 75 for a two-day total of 151. His consistency and control under pressure handed him a slender one-shot advantage heading into the final round.
Jeewantha Wijenayake remained firmly in contention after carding back-to-back rounds of 76 for a total of 152, just one stroke behind the leader.
Sri Lanka’s top ranked junior golfer and overnight leader Reshan Algama slipped slightly in the second round but stayed within striking distance. After opening with the best score of 75 on Day One, he returned a 79 yesterday to drop to third place on 154.
Uchitha Ranasinghe occupies fourth position on 157 after rounds of 77 and 80, while Jacob Norton completed the top five with an improved second-round 79 to finish on 160.
The cut was set at 172, with 17 players progressing to the final round. Among those who advanced were Chanaka Perera (161), Saman Rupasinghe (162), P.D.S.U. Kumara (164) and Lavidu Sohas Premarathna (165).
Professionals Taniya Minel and Dhuwarshan also moved forward after both ended on 166. Janeesh Sasmitha Weerasinghe and Rosana Prasad qualified on 167, while Sachinth Madusanka, Priya Hemantha (T/Pro) and Kogulan scraped through on 171.
Jayampathi Bandara, Prabath Karunarathna and Dhananjaya were the final players to survive the cut, all tied at 172.
In the Ladies’ division, Sadamali Sumanarathne took control with rounds of 95 and 86 for a total of 181. She enjoys a comfortable lead over Sanjeewani Wijegunarathna (196) and Geethanjali Gamage (209).
