Sri Lanka’s stellar start in FIBA 3X3 Asia Cup Qualifiers

SINGAPORE, Mar 27, 11PM – Sri Lanka’s men’s 3X3 basketball team made a powerful entrance into the Qualifying Draw matches of the FIBA 3X3 Asia Cup at the Singapore Sports Hub on Wednesday. With spirited performances, they clinched two victories against Indonesia and the Northern Mariana Islands.

The Sri Lankan team, consisting of Ruskshan Atapattu, Pawan Gamage, Nilantha Mendis, and Simron Yoganathan, hailing from Jaffna, displayed their skills on the court.

They triumphed over Indonesia with a scoreline of 21-14, exhibiting their prowess in offense and defense. They continued their winning streak by defeating the Northern Mariana Islands with a score of 21-13.

These back-to-back victories have placed Sri Lanka in a formidable position within the competition. Simron Yoganathan, one of the standout players from Jaffna, delivered exceptional performances in both games, contributing significantly to his team’s success.

The five-day competition, featuring 43 teams representing over 20 nations from across Asia, promises intense matchups and intense competition. As Sri Lanka progresses through the Qualifying Draw, they are set to face Korea in their third game on Thursday, aiming to maintain their winning momentum and secure a spot in the next stage of the tournament.
