COLOMBO, Sri Lanka, October 30, 2025 (ePRESS) – Citrus Leisure PLC has officially reopened The Steuart by Citrus, after extensive refurbishment that brings new life to one of Colombo’s most historic heritage hotels. The property has been redesigned for modern travellers while keeping its historic charm intact.
The hotel is located in the iconic Steuart House, once the city headquarters of George Steuart & Co., Sri Lanka’s oldest business house, founded in 1835 by British sea captain James Steuart and his brothers George and Joseph. The building remains a key symbol of the country’s colonial and commercial heritage.
The Steuart by Citrus offers 44 fully refurbished rooms that combine traditional Scottish elegance with warm Sri Lankan hospitality. It caters to both business and leisure guests, providing a boutique experience in Colombo’s busy commercial heart.
A highlight of the hotel is the original boardroom of George Steuart & Co., preserved and upgraded for modern use. This historic space now serves as a unique venue for corporate meetings and small events.
The popular &Co Pub and Kitchen has also returned, featuring a refreshed menu and a welcoming atmosphere for dining and socialising.
Chandana Thalwatte, CEO of Citrus Leisure PLC, said:
“The Steuart by Citrus has always been a special part of our portfolio and of Colombo’s hospitality landscape. We’re honoured to reopen its doors and invite guests to experience a space that reflects both the rich history of George Steuart & Co. and the vibrant, contemporary spirit of Citrus.”
The reopening of The Steuart by Citrus marks a milestone in Colombo’s hospitality sector, combining heritage, luxury, and modern business convenience under one roof.
