COLOMBO, Sri Lanka, July 24 (ePRESS) – The Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union (SLASU) will conduct crucial selection trials this weekend to pick the men’s and women’s national water polo teams for the 11th Asian Aquatics Championship 2025 to be held in Ahmedabad, India from October 4 to 10.

The trials will be held on July 26 and 27 at the Air Force Swimming Pool Complex in Ratmalana, starting from 7:30 a.m. onwards.

The men’s trial will be held on Saturday (July 26) followed by the women’s trial on Sunday (July 27).

According to SLASU officials, around 70 top-level players from across the country are expected to take part in these two-day trials under the open category.

This marks a historic move for Sri Lanka’s water polo, as the island nation has never participated in a major international event such as the World Aquatics or Asian Aquatics organized water polo championships in recent years. Until now, Sri Lanka has only played in invitational tournaments like those in Singapore and a few other Asian countries.

The upcoming 11th Asian Aquatics Championship is expected to feature top teams from across Asia, making it a highly competitive platform for Sri Lanka’s emerging water polo stars.

SLASU hopes this participation will raise the standard of water polo in the country and give Sri Lankan players much-needed exposure at the continental level.
