NUWARA ELIYA, November 21, Friday (ePRESS) – Adithya Weerasinghe of Ananda College produced a stunning performance on Day 1 of the Gold Division at the Nuwara Eliya Regional Junior Open Golf Championship 2025, carding a brilliant 73 to take a three-stroke lead over his closest rivals. The championship, organized by Sri Lanka Golf, which began in Nuwara Eliya.
Jacob Norton of Royal Colombo Golf Club and Gavishka Sathsara of Colombo shared second place with gross scores of 76, while Kaiyan Johnpillai of Colombo and Janeesh Sasmitha Weerasinghe of Anuradhapura were tied at 77, showing solid early form. T. Deshan of Colombo followed closely in sixth place with 78, rounding out an impressive top-six leaderboard in the boys’ 18-player category.
The competition also featured strong performances in other divisions. Ayaan Gunasekera of Colombo posted 89, with S. Sadhurshiyan of Nuwara Eliya and S. Kabilash of Nuwara Eliya both on 90, while Pabasara Kavishka of Kandy carded 91. Players such as Sri Shankar Thilakshan of Kandy, Aditha Mithsara of Ananda College, and M. Dhushan of Nuwara Eliya also posted competitive rounds.
In the girls’ division, Lorance Sithara Dedunu of Kandy and Anumi Karunathilake of Kandy both recorded 91s to lead the Yellow marker category, followed by Keya Abhayaratne of Colombo on 97 and Aditi Iddamalgoda of Colombo on 106. The championship continues over the next two days.
