Colombo, Jan 11, 7.45PM – Reshan Algama, Sri Lanka’s top ranked World Junior Amateur Golf ranked player emerged as the champion in the 2024 Srixon RCGC Junior Open Golf Championship on Thursday. Algama showcased his prowess over three days, finishing with a remarkable cumulative score of 206, seven strokes under par.
Competing in the Under-19 category, Algama showcased exceptional skills with a remarkable gross of 69 on the final day, securing a total of 206 over 18 holes (71, 66, 69). This victory marks Algama’s first Srixon RCGC win in his 1st year in the Gold division having won same in the Silver and lower age divisions earlier..
Leading from the first day, Algama faced an exciting challenge on the third day from K Danushan, who matched Algama’s impressive 5-under 66 from the second day. However, Algama maintained his composure and secured the championship with a 2-under 69, narrowly edging out Danushan, who finished with a total score of 208. Yannik Kumara claimed the third spot with a solid 3-under-par total of 216, while Jevahn Sathasivam secured fourth place with a cumulative score of 224.
In the Silver Division for girls, Keya Abhayaratne dominated, securing the top spot with a total score of 313, comfortably surpassing Aaradhi Samarrathne (338). Lorance Sithara Dedunu secured the third spot with a score of 341, and Janumi Behansa finished in fourth place.
In the Silver category for boys aged 13 to 15+, Adithya Weerasinghe emerged as the champion with an impressive 2-under total of 224. Keshav Algama secured the second position, surpassing T Deshan (241) and Kaiyan Johnpilllai (245).
Moving to the Bronze Division, Nimasha Dahamdi claimed the top spot in the girls’ category with a score of 246, while Aamindi Umasha secured the second position with a score of 283. In the boys’ category (11 years and under, playing 14 holes), H. Shenal Nimsith secured victory with an overall score of 171. Lavidu Premarathne claimed the second position with a score of 189, followed by Udeera Bandara with a score of 200. Divyashz Silva secured the fourth position with a score of 224.
In the Girls Copper division, Hesandi Meepawala secured the first position with a score of 141, closely followed by Vihara Herath (142) and Thangaraja Sanuthi (186). For the 10 years boys in the Copper Division, Revaan Amarasinghe claimed the top position with a score of 107, with Jaidon Herath securing the second place (111), Jaeden Sathasivam claiming the third position (118), and Kenula Scofield finishing in fourth place (149).
With the aim of promoting junior golf in Sri Lanka, Precious House (Pvt) Ltd, the sole agent of Srixon in Sri Lanka and Dunlop Srixon Sports Asia’s main brand, sponsored the tournament for the fifth consecutive year.
