Sri Lanka’s swimming elite converge for Relay Championship

Colombo, January 23, 7.25PM – The countdown has begun for the much-anticipated National Age Group Relay Championship, skillfully organized by the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union (SLASU). The event is poised to commence  its watery spectacle at the Sugathadasa Stadium Swimming Pool Complex on Sunday, January 28.

Swimmers of varying ages, ranging from the energetic Under-11s to the experienced Open category (Over-20), will dive headfirst into this thrilling one-day championship. The stage is set for a dynamic convergence of top swimming schools and clubs, promising a day filled with spirited competition and aquatic excellence.

Teams are preparing for an intense battle, striving to earn valuable points in their quest for victory. A gold medal will catapult a team to 20 points, while silver and bronze medalists will secure 15 and 12 points, respectively. But here’s where it gets even more exciting— the final eight athletes in each category will contribute to their team’s tally, with points awarded for positions from fourth to eighth place.

Reflecting on the excitement of the previous edition, Ananda College emerged triumphant as the Boys Overall Champions, displaying their swimming skill. On the girls’ side, Lyceum International School Wattala proudly clinched the Girls Overall Championship title. The defending champions from the previous year, St Joseph’s College and Visakha Vidyalaya, demonstrated their excellence by securing the runners-up positions in the boys and girls segments, respectively.

As the city buzzes with anticipation, all eyes are on the Sugathadasa Stadium Swimming Pool Complex. Who will emerge as this year’s swimming champions?
