BATTARAMULLA: (ePRESS) – Havishka Perera, a 15-year-old student from British School Colombo, amazed everyone with her incredible performance at the 39th Senior/Intermediate/Junior Rowing Nationals. The event, hosted by the Amateur Rowing Association of Sri Lanka, took place at the Diyawannawa Rowing Centre in Battaramulla.

In the Schoolgirl Scull event, Havishka set a new record with a stunning time of eight minutes and 39 seconds. This achievement marked the fastest time ever recorded by a schoolgirl rower in the history of our national championships.

Adding to her glory, Havishka also secured the Gold Medal in the Under-18 Girls’ Single scull event, completing the race in eight minutes and 46 seconds. Her outstanding performances earned her the prestigious Best Rower Award at the competition.

Havishka’s journey in rowing has been remarkable. Despite being just 15 years old, she is already training with the Sri Lanka Junior Rowing Pool. Her dedication and hard work over the past two years have led to significant improvements in her skills.

Since 2022, Havishka has been a consistent medalist at national level competitions. She also proudly represented Sri Lanka at the Asian Junior Rowing Championships held last year in Thailand.

The rowing nationals saw participation from over 350 athletes, including competitors from the tri-forces, universities, clubs, and schools. Havishka’s outstanding performance has not only brought glory to herself and her school but has also inspired many young athletes across the country.
