DIGANA, Sri Lanka, July 6, 2025 (ePRESS) –
Some of Sri Lanka’s best amateur golfers are ready to fight for glory when the Sri Lanka Golf Union’s July Ranking Tournament tees off at the beautiful Victoria Golf Resort in Digana from July 8 to 11.

This important tournament, played over four days and 72 holes, is officially counted for the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR). It will feature top local stars and overseas-based players battling for top honours on one of the country’s most stunning golf courses. Monday has been set as the official practice day before the action begins.

Leading the charge is Sri Lanka’s highest-ranked amateur, Chalitha Pushpika, the Navy golfer, who returns after missing last month’s event due to injury. The 365th-ranked player in the world, Pushpika was in brilliant form earlier this year, clinching three consecutive titles before his brief break from competition. Now fully recovered, he is one of the hot favourites to lift the trophy this week.

Joining him is Uchitha Ranasinghe, Sri Lanka’s second-highest ranked amateur at 565 in the WAGR, who will be looking to take advantage of his good run of form.

Defending champion K. Danushan, who won the May Ranking Tournament, will aim to keep his winning momentum going on familiar fairways. Another exciting player to watch is Reshan Algama, Sri Lanka’s top-ranked junior, who has been in superb form this year. The 17-year-old impressed with a 4th place finish at the Nepal Amateur Championship, a 7th place in Indonesia’s Ciputra Junior Amateur, and a strong 2nd place at last month’s National Ranking Tournament. These performances have boosted Reshan to 665th in the WAGR.

Also making an impact is current Sri Lanka Amateur Champion Jevahn Sathasivam, ranked 772 in the WAGR, who will be using this tournament as a key opportunity to sharpen his skills ahead of the Dutch Junior Open, in which he has been invited to take place from July 16th to 19th at the internationally acclaimed Toxandria Golf Club.

Adding international flavour to this event are Haroon Aslam and Nathaniel Lee, two talented Sri Lankan golfers currently based in the USA. They will join the local stars for this exciting challenge.

Also set to take part are Chanaka Perera (WAGR rank 1439), who will be looking to improve his standing with a strong performance at Victoria.

There will be a cut after the second round, with the top 15 male players (including ties) advancing to the final two rounds of the tournament.

Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Golf Junior Ranking Tournament will also be worked off at the same venue on July 10th and 11th. This event is expected to feature the country’s most promising young talents, and the prizes for the junior tournament will be sponsored by Pro Golf.

As a WAGR-counting event, this championship gives young Sri Lankan golfers a golden opportunity to earn valuable world ranking points and climb the international ladder.
