SYDNEY, Australia, January 26 (ePRESS) – Sonal Tranchell of Asian International School delivered an outstanding performance to win two gold medals at the New South Wales Regatta 2026, held at the Manning River Rowing Club in New South Wales in Sydney, Australia.
Competing against strong international opposition, Sonal struck gold in the Men’s Single Sculls (1X) and the Men’s Double Sculls (2X), emerging as one of the standout performers of the three-day regatta.
The event attracted nearly 500 athletes from different countries and was raced over the standard 2000-metre course. Challenging windy conditions tested the endurance and skill of the rowers throughout the competition, adding to the difficulty of the races.
The regatta had a strong international flavour, with only two Sri Lankan boys taking part, making Sonal’s double gold medal achievement even more remarkable.
Speaking to 7 News Australia, Sonal said the tough conditions helped him grow as an athlete.
“It was really windy, but it was fun to get that experience. We pushed hard for the first place and we actually got it,” he said.
