AIS crowned for hosting top-notch Inter-school Under-14 Netball Tournament

COLOMBO: (ePRESS) – The recently concluded Inter-International School Under-14 Netball Tournament 2024 held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium last Saturday has drawn widespread acclaim for its flawless organization and high standards, with Asian International School (AIS) taking center stage as the proud host. With the participation of 15 teams, the event highlighted the dedication and sportsmanship of young netball enthusiasts from various schools across Sri Lanka.

Led by Principal Harshana Perera and Head of Sports Nihara Bagoos, the organizing committee of AIS ensured that every aspect of the tournament met international standards. From the systematic coordination of matches to the seamless execution of logistical details, the event left a lasting impression on both participants and spectators.

The presence of experienced netball umpires from the Sri Lanka Netball Federation further added to the professionalism of the tournament, ensuring fair play and adherence to regulations throughout the competition. Their expertise, coupled with the efforts of AIS staff members, contributed to the overall success of the event.

The tournament saw instense competition among participating schools, including Asian International School, The British School in Colombo, and Gateway College Colombo, among others. In an exciting final match, Gateway College Colombo emerged victorious, claiming the championship title after a spirited battle against Lyceum Wattala.

Individual accolades were also bestowed upon standout players, with Dini Jayaweera of Gateway College Colombo crowned as the Netball Queen for her exceptional performance. Chenuthi Perera received recognition as the Best Defensive Player, while Raneen Nazih was honored as the Best Shooter, both representing Gateway Colombo. Risari Wickramasinghe of Lyceum Wattala was celebrated as the Best Centre Court Player, further highlighting the talent and skill on display throughout the tournament.
