JAKARTA, Indonesia, July 16 (ePRESS) – Sri Lankan top ranked teenage golf sensation Reshan Algama has placed himself firmly in the spotlight at the prestigious MEDCO Pondok Indah International Amateur Golf Championship 2025, as he targets a remarkable top-7 finish going into the final round in Jakarta, Indonesia on Wednesday.
Just 17 years old and ranked 580 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR), Algama showed his class on the second day with a composed even-par 72, adding to his first-round score of 74 (+2). With a total of 146 (+2), he now shares ninth place in a strong international field that includes highly ranked amateurs from the USA, Australia, Indonesia, and across Asia.
His second-round card featured five birdies and five bogeys, reflecting both his aggressive approach and steady nerves under pressure. With one more strong round, Algama could break into the top seven — a result that would earn him valuable world ranking points and further establish him as Sri Lanka’s top golfing prospect.
At the top of the leaderboard, Indonesia’s Jantha Xavier (World No. 245) and William Justin (World No. 367) continue to impress. Both players carded consistent rounds and now jointly lead the tournament, setting up an exciting final day clash. The duo has managed to stay ahead in a tournament that features some of Asia-Pacific’s finest amateur talent.
But while local fans are focused on the title fight, Sri Lankans are keeping a close eye on their young star Algama, whose quiet determination has seen him climb steadily through the field.
It was a day of mixed emotions for the rest of the Sri Lankan contingent. Haroon Aslam played solidly to finish tied 27th with a two-day score of 154, while Jacob Norton bounced back from a disappointing start to shoot 76 (+4) on Day Two, placing him 44th overall with 157.
Sachin De Silva, however, faced heartbreak, missing the cut by just one stroke — a narrow and painful exit in a tournament of high standard.
