BANGALURU, India: (ePRESS) – Sri Lanka’s rising golf star, Reshan Algama, delivered a composed performance in the opening round of the IGU All India Junior Golf Championship in Bangalore yesterday. The talented amateur carded a solid 72, positioning himself just two strokes behind joint leaders Niransh Singh, Armaan Gawde, and Krish Chawla, who each posted impressive scores of 70.

Algama’s round was a study in precision and calm under pressure. Starting strong, the left-hander navigated the front nine with a steady 35, relying on consistent pars and a well-timed birdie. The back nine presented challenges, including a bogey on the 15th, but Algama rebounded swiftly with a birdie on the 16th, closing the day with a respectable 37. His composure and ability to recover from setbacks exemplified the qualities of a seasoned competitor.

Adhithya Weerasinghe, another Sri Lankan representative and an Ananda College standout, also showed promise. He recorded a three-over-par 75, landing in a tie for 21st place. Weerasinghe’s performance highlighted his potential to make a significant impact in the tournament’s later stages.

Thejas Rathis, Sri Lanka’s third entrant, faced a tougher outing, finishing with an 11-over-par 83. Despite the challenges, Rathis excelled, ensuring his place in the next stage alongside his compatriots.

The championship, contested by some of India’s finest junior golfers, serves as a high-pressure arena where skills and mental toughness are tested. For Algama, being just two strokes off the lead highlights his capability to compete at the top level. His steady performance and sharp focus keep him firmly in contention as the tournament progresses.

Adhithya will look to build on his solid start, while Thejas aims to regroup and climb the leaderboard in the coming rounds.
