COLOMBO: (ePRESS) – Ananda College and Mahanama College have secured promotion to the Schools Rugby ‘A’ Division segment for the 2025 season, raising the total number of competing teams in the league to 18. The announcement marks a historic expansion of the premier school rugby competition, promising heightened intensity and fresh rivalries in the upcoming season.
Defending champions St Peter’s College headline Group ‘A’, joined by a competitive lineup featuring DS Senanayake College, Science College, St Anthony’s College, and the newly-promoted Ananda College. The group is set to be a battlefield as St Peter’s aims to retain its crown against determined challengers, including the ambitious newcomers.
Group ‘B’ boasts an equally formidable roster, with this year’s runners-up Isipathana College leading the pack. Traditional powerhouses S Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia and Kingswood College will clash with Dharmaraja College, Zahira College, and the spirited Mahanama College, the other newly-promoted contender eager to prove its mettle.
Group ‘C’ presents a balanced mix of rugby titans and rising stars. Royal College, which clinched third place this year, will lock horns with Trinity College Kandy, St Joseph’s College Colombo, Vidyartha College Kandy, and Sri Sumangala College Kandy. The group promises a mix of tradition and innovation as teams vie for supremacy.
