Ananda’s Jayabandu and Visakha’s Gajaba triumph in under-18 finals

COLOMBO: (ePRESS) – Lithum Jayabandu from Ananda College and Hasali Gajaba from Visakha Vidyalaya emerged as the Under-18 Boys and Girls Champions at the ongoing 109th Colombo Championship. The tournament, sponsored by Vision Care, is being held at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) courts in Greenpath.

In the boys’ Under-18 final, Jayabandu triumphed over Ashlin de Silva from St. Peter’s College with a straight-set victory, 6-2, 6-3. Jayabandu excelled throughout the match to secure his win.

In the girls’ Under-18 final, Gajaba defeated Arushi Thomas from Newstead College in a thrilling three-set match. The final score was 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 in favor of Gajaba.

The semi-finals saw intense competition as well. In the boys’ Under-18 semi-finals, Ashlin de Silva beat Louis Knese with scores of 6-1, 1-6, 6-3. Meanwhile, Lithum Jayabandu overcame Ganuka Fernando with a score of 5-7, 6-3, 6-2.

For the girls, Arushi Thomas defeated Oneli Samarawickrama 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 in the first semi-final. Hasali Gajaba beat Sandithi Usgodaarachchi 7-5, 6-1 in the second semi-final.

The 109th Colombo Championship, which began on June 21, will continue until July 14, featuring approximately 1,000 players across different age categories and open events.
