COLOMBO, June 13 (ePRESS) – Sri Lanka Golf (SLG) has secured the hosting rights for the prestigious Asia Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) Junior Championship 2026, bringing the region’s top young golfers to the country for a major international event at the Royal Colombo Golf Club from June 17 to 19.

The championship will feature 64 junior golfers from 15 countries — Singapore, South Korea, Chinese Taipei, India, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Myanmar, Oman, Qatar, Jordan, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates, Philippines and host Sri Lanka — competing in one of the most important junior golf tournaments in the Asia-Pacific region.

The three-day championship will be played over 54 holes in stroke-play format and will include Individual Boys and Girls events, Boys Team, Girls Team and Mixed Team competitions.

Eligible players are amateur boys and girls aged 17 and under as of June 17, 2026, representing their respective countries.

The Mixed Team event will consist of one male and one female player from each country, with the combined gross scores over 54 holes deciding the champions. The Boys Team and Girls Team competitions will each feature two-player teams, with aggregate scores determining the winners.

Individual champions will also be crowned in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions based on the lowest 54-hole scores.

Sri Lanka Golf said the event will provide valuable international exposure for local golfers while boosting sports tourism and promoting Sri Lanka as a destination for major international sporting events.

Sri Lanka will field four boys’ teams and four girls’ teams, with players selected from Colombo, Kandy, Anuradhapura and Nuwara Eliya.

Former Sri Lanka professional golfer Mithun Perera will serve as coach, while Tharanga Gunasekara has been appointed team manager.
