Asian International School lifts Plate at RAISE Futsal in thrilling shootout

THURSTAN GROUNDS, Colombo: (ePRESS) – The Asian International School Senior Football team triumphed in the final of the 2025 RAISE Inter-School Futsal Tournament, winning the Plate Championship after a thrilling penalty shootout against Colombo International School on February 25 at Thurstan Grounds.

The match ended 1-1 in regular time, but AIS kept their composure in the penalty shootout, securing a 4-3 victory.

Earlier in the tournament, AIS had excelled in the semi-finals, defeating the British School of Colombo 3-2. Yusuf Razmi was the best performer, scoring twice, while Yusuf Rizmeer added one more to push the team into the final.

In the decisive penalty shootout of the final, Razmi, Rizmeer, Zaid Mabhutoon, and Daniel Bibile all scored, displaying the team’s coolness under pressure. Yusuf Rizmeer’s outstanding performances throughout the tournament earned him the Most Valuable Player award in the Plate segment.

Head of Sports at AIS, Nihara Bagoos, expressed her pride in the team’s achievement, saying, “Champions are made when talented individuals come together as one team. Congratulations to our Football Team! What an incredible display of teamwork and skill. You’ve earned this victory completely.”

The AIS squad also included Ayyash Shafraz, Ramika Weerasekara, Diman Kalpage, Menuka Tennakoon, and Luqman Abdullah, all of whom played key roles in their victory.
