Asian International School shines bright: 16 medals in ISAC glory

Colombo, Feb 29, 10PM – Asian International School (AIS) athletes showcased outstanding performances at the 22nd International School Athletic Championship (ISAC), clinching a total of 16 medals. Held at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo over the last weekend, the event, organized by Gateway College, saw AIS secure 235 points, placing seventh among the 22-TISSL (The International Schools of Sri Lanka) schools.

Led by captain Aathif Mohideen and vice-captain Jordan de Soysa, AIS athletes demonstrated remarkable talent, capturing four gold medals, five silver medals, and seven bronze medals in the two-day competition, which drew approximately 1,500 athletes.

Head of Sports, Nihara Bagoos, praised the team’s achievement, highlighting the absence of scholarships for athletics and commending the dedication and hard work exhibited by AIS athletes.

In the Under-20 age category, AIS secured four gold medals. Raynan de Soysa triumphed in the shot put event, while Aathif Mohideen claimed gold in the boys’ 400m race. Senila Botejue excelled in the Under-16 boys’ shot put, earning another gold for AIS. Methasha Hettiarachchi clinched gold in the Under-12 girls’ Long Jump.

Adding to the tally, AIS athletes secured five silver medals. Aathif Mohideen impressed in the boys’ Under-20 100m and 200m races. Lareana Siriwardane excelled in the Under-20 girls’ shot put and discuss throw events. Jordan de Soysa claimed silver in the Under-18 Boys’ 100m race.

AIS also demonstrated strength in bronze, with four medals in various categories. Daniel Bibile secured bronze in the Under-18 boys’ discuss throw, while Chenuka Caldera impressed in the Under-14 boys’ 80m Hurdles. Nethumi Wijendra and Natashi Wijesuriya showcased talent in the Under-14 girls’ Long Jump and Under-20 Girls’ 100m Hurdles, respectively.

Additionally, AIS relay teams shone bright, securing one silver and three bronze medals. The Under-20 Boys’ 4X100m team clinched silver, while the Under-20 Girls’ 4X100m relay quartet and Under-16 Boys’ 4X100m relay team brought home bronze medals.

The remarkable achievements of AIS athletes underscored their commitment to excellence and marked a significant milestone in the school’s athletic history.
