BENTOTA: (ePRESS) – The Windsurfing Nationals 2025, organized by the Bentota Windsurf Club in collaboration with the Yachting Association of Sri Lanka, is scheduled to take place on January 11, Saturday, at the picturesque Picnic Park, Bentota Beach. This year, the event aims to showcase the beautiful countryside coastal belt of Sri Lanka, especially outside Colombo.

Leading windsurfers from across the country will compete in this annual one-day event, which will see participants representing eight registered clubs under the Yachting Association of Sri Lanka. The clubs taking part include the Royal Colombo Yacht Club (RCYC), Ceylon Motor Yacht Club (CMYC), Sri Lanka Navy Sailing Club, Bentota Windsurfing Club, Ruhunu Sailing Association, Kalpitiya Windsports Club, Future Fibres Sailing Club, and Cinec Sailing Club.

The event promises to be an exciting competition, with last year’s champion, Prinatha Gunawardena from the Sri Lanka Navy Sailing Club, returning to defend his title. In the 2024 edition, held at Crow Island in Mattakkuliya, Colombo, Gunawardena claimed the top spot, and expectations are high for a thrilling contest this year.

The Chief Operating Officer of the Yachting Association of Sri Lanka emphasized the importance of the event in promoting Sri Lanka’s coastal belt for international attention. “Our main idea is to attract foreign exchanges and make the coastal belt of Sri Lanka more popular,” he said.

With its vibrant atmosphere and skilled competitors, the Windsurfing Nationals 2025 is set to boost the sport’s profile and attract more visitors to Sri Lanka’s stunning beaches.
