Colombo, Mar 26, 1PM – Dinara de Silva, a rising star from St. Bridget’s Convent, has been making an impact in the tennis world, particularly in her home country Sri Lanka. Over the past three years, Dinara, along with her teammates representing Sri Lanka, has displayed an unparalleled dominance in Under-14 World Junior and Billie Jean Kings Cup pre-qualifying tournaments held in Colombo.
During the years 2022, 2023, and 2024, Dinara has remained unbeaten in all pre-qualifying events for Asia/Oceania Under-14 and Under-16 categories. Her remarkable journey includes a streak of 15 consecutive wins in singles matches for Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka, starting from 2022.
Notably, she has helped team Sri Lanka triumph in prestigious international events like the Asia/Oceania Under-14 World Junior Prequalifying and the Under-16 Billie Jean King’s Cup prequalifying tournaments, representing Sri Lanka with unparalleled skill.
In the Under-14 World Junior Prequalifying Tournament in 2022, Dinara’s teammate Arushi Thomas also displayed exceptional talent, securing victory in all singles matches.
The year 2022 marked a significant milestone for Dinara, as she partnered with Newstead College players Arushi Thomas and Oneli Samarawickrama in the Under-14 World Junior Final Qualifying Round in New Delhi. Together, they propelled Sri Lanka to an impressive eighth-place finish in the final qualifying round, where they competed against 16 formidable teams from the region.
In 2023, Dinara continued her winning streak, securing victories in both singles and doubles matches in the Under-16 Billie Jean King Cup Prequalifying event held in Colombo. Teaming up with Inuki Jayaweera of Musaeus College and Ruvi Lewke Bandara of Gateway College Colombo, Dinara led her team to victory, cementing their status as champions. . Moreover, Dinara’s prowess isn’t confined to singles; she clinched victory in doubles matches to secure top spot for team Sri Lanka, displaying her versatility on the court.
Fast forward to 2024, Dinara joined forces with US-based player Ivanka Samarasinghe and Arushi Thomas. Their synergy proved unstoppable as they triumphed in all matches without dropping a set, with Dinara and Ivanka emerging victorious in their respective singles matches.
Their outstanding performance has earned them a coveted spot in the final qualifying round of the Billie Jean Cup/Junior Davis Cup, slated to take place in Kazakhstan from May 13 to 17. Among 16 nations in the region, Sri Lanka, led by Dinara de Silva, stands ready to display their talent on the international stage.
Dinara is the Reigning National Champion and Sri Lankas number 1. Her journey is not just a proof to her individual skill but also to the collective effort of Sri Lanka’s emerging tennis talent.
