DURBAN, Souh Africa: (ePRESS) – Three young karatekas from the British School in Colombo made Sri Lanka proud at the Commonwealth Club Karate Tournament held in Durban, South Africa, by securing Bronze Medals in their respective categories.
Pomudhi Pathirage, Yadurshayan Kulaseelan, and Thidunya Pathirage delivered commendable performances against tough competition.
Yadurshayan clinched the Bronze Medal in the Under-14 Boys’ Kata event, demonstrating precision and skill in his routines. Pomudhi excelled in the Girls’ Junior Kumite 48kg category, showcasing remarkable agility and tactical sharpness to secure her medal. Thidunya also stood out with her spirited performance, earning Bronze in the Cadet Kumite 47kg category.
The tournament, hosted by Karate South Africa in partnership with the Commonwealth Karate Federation, drew over 150 competitors from across the Commonwealth. Athletes from various nations battled for glory, making the achievements of the British School trio even more significant.
Parents, coaches, and supporters back home in Sri Lanka have hailed their performances, celebrating the pride they brought to their school and country.
“These young athletes have shown that with focus and determination, they can compete with the best. This is just the beginning for them,” a school representative said.
