Chanaka delivers clinical finish to win golf ranking event

Chanaka Perera 1

NUWARA ELIYA, November 9, 2025 (ePRESS) – Sri Lanka’s two-time amateur champion Chanaka Perera of Sitrek Group produced a sensational final-round performance, carding a stunning four-under-par 67, the best score of the three-day event, to capture the final national ranking title of the year at the Sri Lanka Golf November Ranking Tournament which concluded at the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club on Sunday.

On the par-71 course, Perera’s spectacular round helped him finish with a total gross of 220, two strokes clear of home favourite and Day 1 leader S. Dhuwarshan, who carded a 74 in his final round to settle for the runner-up spot with an aggregate of 222.

Perera, who started the final day sixth on the leaderboard and eight strokes behind the leader, produced a masterclass of controlled and confident golf under pressure. His precision with the irons and calm putting turned the tables dramatically, marking one of the most impressive comebacks seen this season in Sri Lankan amateur golf. Remarkably, Perera has previously carded a six-under-par round on this very course, underlining his deep familiarity and skill at Nuwara Eliya.

Early leader Dhanushan Kumar, the country’s current number one-ranked amateur golfer, who had been consistent in the first two rounds, struggled on the final day with an eight-over-par 79, ending with a total gross of 224 to finish third.

In a strong field of top national and club golfers, Vinoth Kumar finished fourth on 225, followed by seasoned professional Vijitha Bandara in fifth with 228. Husni Uwais and Sri Lanka Navy’s Chalitha Pushpika shared sixth place on 230, while Kaiyan Johnpillai was eighth on 231.

Among the ladies, R.M.A.C. Rathnayaka claimed top honours with a three-round total of 275, ahead of K.U.D.N. Uluwaththa (288) and G.C.H.G. Gamage (316).

The three-day tournament, held from November 6 to 9, served as the final ranking event of the 2025 season and also acted as a selection trial for the forthcoming Bangladesh Amateur Golf Championship.
