COLOMBO: (ePRESS) – Dini Jayaweera from Gateway College Colombo has clinched the Netball Queen Award after being instrumental in her team’s victory in the Under-14 Inter-international Schools Netball Championship. Gateway College Colombo triumphed over Lyceum International School Wattala in a nail-biting final, with a final score of 10-8 at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium last Saturday.
Among other notable players, Chenuthi Perera from Colombo Gateway was recognized as the best defensive player, while Raneen Nazih from Gateway College Colombo stood out as the Best shooter. Risari Wickramarachchi from Lyceum International School Wattala was awarded as the best center court player alongside the crowned Netball Queen, Dini Jayaweera from Gateway College Colombo.
Sairi Sadikeen, Adeeba Fareen and Laiha Reyal also shone for Gateway Colombo.
In the semi-finals, Gateway College Kandy faced an unbeaten run until their defeat against Gateway College Colombo with a score of 7-5. Meanwhile, Lyceum International School Wattala secured their spot in the final by defeating Nugegoda Lyceum with a score of 10-4.
The battle for the third place saw Gateway College Kandy facing off against Lyceum International School Nugegoda, resulting in a close win for Gateway College Kandy with a score of 10-7.
Fifteen international schools participated in the one-day competition on the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium courts.
