Dissanayake and Dharmasena smash their way to quarters

Colombo, Feb 6, 3.30PM – Sri Lanka’s Gamini Dissanayake and Suresh Dharmasena had a great start in the online ITF UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour at the SLTA hard court. The tournament began on Tuesday, and both players made it to the quarter-finals.

Gamini Dissanayake played against Karthik Karunakaran from India and won 2-0. He dominated the match with a scoreline of 6-0 and 6-0, securing his spot in the quarter-finals.

Suresh Dharmasena also had a successful match, defeating local player Pradeep Kumara 2-0. Dharmasena’s scoreline was 6-1 and 6-4 in his favor, earning him a place in the quarter-finals as well.

Other results from the tournament include Abu Samah Borhan from Malaysia beating Damith Jayarathne from Sri Lanka 6-0 6-0, Sung-Bong Ha from Korea defeating Salinda Chandrasekara 6-0 6-0, Jorcelino Ferreira Lima from Brazil winning against Sampath Darshana 6-0 6-0, and Mohamad Yusshazwan Bin Yusuf from Malaysia beating WPJ Wijesiri from Sri Lanka.

The ITF-organized tournament features participants from six countries, including host Sri Lanka, neighboring India, Korea, Brazil, Japan, and Malaysia. The event runs until February 9 and offers a total prize money of USD 3,000. The competition includes both men’s and women’s categories, with 32 players for men’s singles, 16 for men’s doubles, 16 for women’s singles, and eight for women’s doubles, according to the draw.
