COLOMBO, Apr 30 (ePRESS) – Sri Lanka’s biggest school volleyball competition, the 24th edition of the DSI Supersport Schools Volleyball Tournament, will begin on June 12 at the Bandaragama Public Grounds, with around 3,500 teams expected to take part from across the country, organisers announced at a press conference held in Colombo on Tuesday.
The tournament, fully sponsored by D. Samson & Sons Company, is jointly organised by the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation, the Schools Volleyball Association and the Ministry of Education, continuing its long-standing role in developing young talent to the national level.
The district stage of the competition will run until August 10, while the national level matches are scheduled from October 1 to 5. The grand finals will be held on November 14 and 15.
Officials said applications for the tournament will close on May 20. Entry forms can be obtained through zonal and provincial sports directors, or via the official social media platforms of the Volleyball Federation and DSI Supersport. Participants can also access applications through a QR code on the official DSI Supersport Facebook page or by contacting 2669344.
Speaking at the media briefing, DSI Managing Director Thusitha Rajapaksa said the tournament, launched in 1999 by his father Nandadasa Rajapaksa, has continued to grow and provide opportunities for young players across the island.
“The DSI Supersport Volleyball Tournament has played a special role over the years. It gives young players the best platform to improve their skills and come forward. We are happy to contribute to the development and promotion of the national sport,” he said.
