COLOMBO: (ePRESS) – Fifteen-year-old Dinara de Silva of St. Bridget’s Convent continued her dominance on the national tennis circuit by winning the Under-18 Girls Singles Championship at the 109th National Tennis Championship held at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association courts in Greenpath.
Trained at Dinesh Kanthan Tennis School, De Silva, the defending Women’s National Open Singles champion, cruised to victory against Nesangi Hemakumara of Elizabeth Moir School, securing her third consecutive Under-18 title with a commanding 6-2, 6-2 win.
This victory adds to De Silva’s impressive list of achievements, including being the Under-16 Girls Singles champion and last year’s Women’s Open Singles champion, a title she won at the age of 14, making her the youngest ever to do so.
Throughout her national career, De Silva has consistently dominated her age categories, winning the Under-12 and Under-14 titles twice, and the Under-16 championship on two occasions. Remarkably, since claiming the Under-12 and Under-14 titles in 2020, she has lost only one singles match at the Sri Lanka Nationals, amassing an astonishing record of 45 wins to just one loss.
De Silva’s latest triumph reaffirms her status as one of the brightest talents in Sri Lankan tennis, and she remains the player to beat in the national circuit.
