COLOMBO: (ePRESS) – St Peter’s College Bambalapitiya claimed their second consecutive victory in the Under-17 category at the All-Island Schools Tennis Championship, defeating Ananda College Colombo 3-2 (24-11) in the final at the Gymkhana Tennis Club, Queen’s Courts, Colombo.
National players Ganuka Fernando and Ashlin de Silva were the key to the Peterites’ success. Fernando won the first singles match 7-5 against Methika Fernando of Ananda College, while de Silva followed up with a dominant 6-0 win in the second singles. The victory was completed by the doubles pair of Kajan Ajesh and Kalidason Ashwin, who triumphed 7-5 in their match.
This win adds to St Peter’s impressive tennis record, which includes multiple titles across various national tournaments. The team was guided by coach Dinith Pathiraja, who has been leading the squad for 27 years. The Peterite Under-19 team also made it to the semi-finals in last week’s championship.
