Jaffna Schools shine at SLTA DENTA Teen Tennis Championships

KANDY: (ePRESS) – St. Patrick’s College, Jaffna emerged as the champion, with St. John’s College, Jaffna, finishing as the runner-up in the Red Ball category at the SLTA DENTA Teen Cool Tennis Regional Kids’ Play Day 2024, held in Kandy recently.

The event, hosted by the Kandy Garden Club and organized by the Sri Lanka Tennis Association, attracted 240 players from 24 teams representing regions such as Jaffna, Batticaloa, Kurunegala, Matale, Bandarawela, and Kandy. Sponsored by DENTA Teen, the tournament aimed to promote junior tennis across the island.

In the Orange Ball Boys category, Jaffna Hindu Primary School clinched the championship, while St. Patrick’s College, Jaffna once again finished as the runner-up.

The Green Ball Boys category featured another exciting contest, with St. Patrick’s College – Gold taking home the championship title. Jaffna Hindu Primary School put up a strong performance but had to settle for second place. Additionally, St. Patrick’s College – Silver secured third place, while Vaidyeswara College, Jaffna, finished in fourth.

Led by Tournament Director Nalaka De Silva and with Shehara Medawala serving as the tournament referee, the SLTA DENTA Teen Cool Tennis Regional Kids’ Play Day 2024 was a great success. The strong performances, particularly from Jaffna-based schools, highlighted the promising future of tennis in Sri Lanka.
