Melbourne, AUSTRALIA: (ePRESS) – Sri Lankan swimmer Kiran Jasinghe, currently based in Australia, has made an impact by breaking the 50m Breaststroke Sri Lanka national record at the Uncloud Victorian Open Short Course Championship in Victoria, Melbourne.
The 28-year-old swimmer, who is a South Asian gold medalist, clocked an impressive 28.68 seconds in the 50m breaststroke, surpassing his previous record of 28.79 seconds set during the 2019 South Asian Games (SAG) in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Jasinghe, the current national record holder for the 100m breaststroke, clocked a time of 1:02.40 in his latest race. Despite his strong effort, he fell short of breaking his own national record of 1:01.66, set in 2022.
His remarkable performances earned him 695 FINA points for the 100m breaststroke and 658 FINA points for the 50m breaststroke. He also achieved a time of 23.24 seconds in the 50m freestyle, securing 652 FINA points in that event as well.
Th is 50m Breaststroke new record mark a significant milestone in Jasinghe’s career, coming after five years since he set the current national record for the 200m breaststroke at 2:20.68 during the 2019 South Asian Games, where he claimed three gold medals.
