COLOMBO: (ePRESS) – Sri Lanka’s Jevahn Sathasivam is on the brink of capturing the Sri Lanka Amateur Championship title after securing a place in the highly anticipated final of the CEAT Europe Range 133rd Sri Lanka Amateur Open Golf Championship. Sathasivam’s narrow 1-up semi-final victory over India’s Varun Muthappa, one of the tournament’s top contenders, took place yesterday at the Royal Colombo Golf Club.
The semi-final was an intense contest. Sathasivam, who entered the event as the 19th seed, defied expectations by overcoming Muthappa, who had finished second in the qualifying rounds. With this win, Sathasivam sets up a thrilling final match against India’s Shamit Dakhane, who also won his semi-final by 1 up over Suraj Joshi. Today’s 36-hole final between Sathasivam and Dakhane begins with the first round at 7:30 AM and the second at 2:00 PM.
In the Sri Lanka Ladies’ Amateur Championship, tournament favourite Kaya Daluwatte triumphed with an 8/7 win over Yun Jeong Choi in the first semi-final, while Sri Lanka Golf Secretary Anouk Chitty beat Tiru Jesudasan 4/2 in the second. Daluwatte and Chitty will face off in the final today, with rounds at 8:30 AM and 1:45 PM.
In the FB de Mel Cup, part of the Ladies’ Championship, Elsie Pathmanathan clinched a 2/1 victory over Sithara Lawrence.
The 133rd Sri Lanka Amateur Open Golf Championship, one of the oldest amateur events globally outside the United Kingdom, concludes today with an awards ceremony at 5:30 PM.
