Jevahn Sathasivam storms into top 16 at CEAT Sri Lanka Amateur Golf Championship

COLOMBO: (ePRESS) – Jevahn Sathasivam made a strong impression on the third day of the 133rd CEAT Sri Lanka Amateur Golf Championship, storming into the top 16 of the Match Play segments in the 133rd CEAT Sri Lanka Amateur Open Golf Championship, organized by Sri Lanka Golf, continued at the Royal Colombo Golf Club.

Sathasivam, who recently made his debut for the Sri Lanka team and helped secure third place in the team championship, continued his fine form. He defeated up-and-coming golfer Adithya Weerasinghe from the Anuradhapura Golf Academy with a dominant 6/5 scoreline to clinch his spot among the top 16 golfers.

The lineup includes six Sri Lankan golfers who impressed on home ground. Chalitha Pushpika, Chanaka Perera, Jacob Norton, Vinoth Kumar, Jevahn Sathasivam, and K Dhanushan each earned their spots in the top 16 line-up with strong wins.

Two Pakistani golfers, Malik Muhammad Shoib and Raja Muhammad Israt, also advanced after competitive rounds.

India saw eight of its golfers qualify, forming the largest group in the quarterfinals. Akash Thangadore, Varun Muthappa, Suraj Joshi, Samit Kotwal, Shayaan Khadri, Shamit Dakhane, Rahul Batra, and Manoj Sreeramappa all displayed excellent performance to reach this stage.

Meanwhile, Kaya Daluwatte made an impressive start in the Ladies’ Stroke Play Championship, leading the field with a brilliant two-under-par 69 in her second round. After a solid first round of one-over-par 72, Daluwatte finished with a total gross score of 141, placing her at the top of the leaderboard. Trailing behind her is Sri Lanka Golf Secretary Anouk Chitty, who posted rounds of 81 and 81, giving her a total of 162.

Manoj Sreeramappa of India defeated DC Rajapaksa of Sri Lanka Navy with a score of 6-4. Pakistan’s Raja Muhammad Israt scored a strong 14-5 win over Gayan Fernando from Dubai. Rahul Batra of India narrowly defeated Uzair Fridausi, 2-1, while Shamit Dakhane of India overcame Sri Lanka’s Reshan Algama, 6-4. Another Indian, Shayaan Khadri, won over Nirvan Hettiarachchi, 4-2. Suraj Joshi of India outplayed M Lidurshan, 5-3, and Sri Lanka’s Jacob Norton secured a close 7-6 victory over AJ Wijenayake of the Sri Lanka Air Force.

In other matches, Varun Muthappa of India defeated Sri Lanka’s Ranil Peiris, 4-3. Akash Thangadore beat S Duwarshan of Nuwara Eliya Golf Club, 4-1. Pakistan’s Malik Muhammad Shoib claimed a 3-1 win over Adam Fernando. Vinoth Kumar of Nuwara Eliya Golf Club defeated Kaiyan Johnpillai, 2-1. Chalitha Pushpika of Sri Lanka beat PDSU Kumara of Sri Lanka Air Force with a strong 7-5 result. Jevahn Sathasivam won over Adithya Weerasinghe of Anuradhapura Golf Academy, 6-5. Chanaka Perera claimed a 5-4 victory over Kushal Johnpillai, while K Dhanushan defeated KBS Madushanka of the Sri Lanka Air Force by the same margin, 5-4.
