Colombo, Feb 5, 10PM – Sri Lanka’s Kaya Daluwatte had a great time at the 6th Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific (WAAP) Golf Championship, even though she didn’t make it to the final round. The championship took place at the Siam Country Club (SSC) in Pattaya, Thailand.
Despite missing the cut in the challenging course with 90 strong participants, Daluwatte felt proud to have played in such a big tournament. She’s the Junior Champion of Sri Lanka and has won all the local championships. Though based in India, she’s gained valuable experience playing in junior tournaments.
The championship featured 90 players from 22 countries and territories. Ten of them are among the top-50, and 21 are in the top-100 according to the latest WAGR standings.
The WAAP championship, created by The R&A and the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC), aims to inspire future generations of women golfers. Sri Lanka’s highly qualified golf referee, Brigadier Nanda Hathurusinghe, was chosen by ACGC to officiate at the WAAP Championship, adding prestige to the event.
