Killer Whale Aquatics tops medal tally in Senior Nationals

Kandy, Dec 27, Wed – The defending Senior National Champions, Killer Whale Aquatics (KWA), continued their remarkable performance on Day Two of the Sri Lanka National Short Course Swimming Championship conducted by Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union, held at Hillwood College Swimming Pool Complex in Kandy.

KWA’s senior swimmers showcased their prowess, securing seven gold medals, two silver medals, and one bronze medal on Day Two. This impressive feat builds upon their outstanding Day One achievements of six golds, three silvers, and four bronzes, bringing their total gold medal count to 13 and securing the top spot in the senior nationals medal tally.

Kyle Abeysinghe, representing KWA, clinched gold in the men’s 100m freestyle senior national final with an impressive time of 50.70. Anusara Abeygoonawardane added another gold to KWA’s tally in the men’s 400m senior national Individual Medley, completing the race in 4:44.54.

In the women’s events, Hiruki de Silva secured gold in the 100m senior national final, while Ganga Senevirtane claimed the top spot in the women’s 50m backstroke senior national final.

Olympic swimmer Matthew Abeysinghe, a representative of KWA, triumphed in the men’s 50m backstroke senior national final, securing a gold medal with a time of 25.72.

KWA’s relay teams also dazzled, with both the women’s 200m freestyle relay quartet and the men’s 200m freestyle relay quartet securing gold medals.

In addition to KWA’s dominating performance, Visakha Vidyalaya, Asian International School (AIS), and Zahira College each earned one gold medal on the second day.

Christina Perumal of AIS, in her first senior national appearance, clinched gold in the women’s 200m breaststroke senior national final. Zahira College’s MF Muhammad, also making his debut, secured gold in the men’s 200m breaststroke senior national final.
