Knockout tournament sees changes as Royal and Trinity withdraw

COLOMBO: (ePRESS) – Royal College and Trinity College, who finished third and fourth respectively in the Dialog ‘A’ Division Schools League Rugby Tournament, have withdrawn from the upcoming President’s Trophy Dialog ‘A’ Division League Knockout Rugby Tournament, which is set to begin on August 31 and September 1.

The decision comes as both teams prepare for their traditional clash in the Bradby Shield second leg, scheduled for September 7 at Pallekele. Their first leg of the Bradby Shield match will take place on August 24 at Reid Avenue.

With Royal College and Trinity College pulling out, Vidyartha College and St Joseph’s College will advance to the final eight of the President’s Trophy tournament, organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association.

In the quarter-finals, defending champions St Peter’s College will face St Joseph’s College, while league runners-up Isipathana College will play against Vidyartha College. Wesley College, third in their group, will compete against DS Senanayake College in the third quarter-final. The fourth quarter-final will see Zahira College go up against S Thomas’ College.

The semi-finals are scheduled for September 4 and 5, with the final set for September 8. All matches will be held at Sugathadasa Stadium to ensure the safety of players and officials.
