KWA extends dynasty with 23rd national win

ISIPATHANA, Colombo: (ePRESS) Killer Whale Aquatics (KWA) made history at the National and Junior National Short Course Swimming Championships, claiming both the Men’s and Women’s Senior National titles for the sixth consecutive year. This marks their 23rd national title overall. The event concluded yesterday at the Isipathana College Swimming Pool in Colombo last evening.

KWA’s success was powered by UK-based Sri Lankan swimmer Minagi Rupesinghe. Rupesinghe, who claimed five gold medals, set three new national records to be crowned the Women’s National Champion. On the men’s side, Zahira College’s MF Muhammad also won five gold medals, establishing his position as the Men’s National Champion.

Julie Daniella Hope of Dubai-based Cyclone Aquatics impressed with an excellent performance in the junior category, winning five gold medals and setting four new national records to become Junior Girls’ National Champion. AIM Haathim of St Peter’s College also shone with two junior national records, four gold medals, and a silver medal, taking the Junior Boys’ title.

In the Junior Nationals, St Joseph’s College triumphed in the boys’ competition with an impressive 604 points, far ahead of runners-up Gampaha District Swimming and Life Saving Association (279). St Peter’s College finished in third place with 250 points. Musaeus College claimed the Junior National Girls’ Championship, narrowly edging out Lyceum International School Wattala, who took second. Musaeus earned 392 points, while Lyceum accumulated 378.

In the Senior Men’s National competition, KWA accumulated 595.50 points to claim the top spot, with Stafford International School (366 points) finishing second, followed by Sri Lanka Army (298 points). Lyceum International School Wattala (277 points) and Ghefari Dulpandan Swim School (268.50 points) completed the top five.

The KWA Women’s team dominated their competition, collecting 559 points to secure the Senior National Women’s Championship. Lyceum International School Wattala (280 points) finished as runners-up, while Ladies’ College took third with 245 points.

Throughout the five-day meet, a total of 19 individual national records were broken.
