COLOMBO: (ePRESS) – The 19th edition of the MN Edussuriya Trophy water polo encounter between Ladies’ College and Visakha Vidyalaya is set to kick off on Friday at the Sugathadasa Stadium Swimming Pool Complex. The matches will begin with the Under-15 game at 2:30 PM, followed by the main event at 4:30 PM. Former Ladies’ College captain Sachini Ratanayake will be the chief guest for the awards presentation.
In this highly anticipated clash, Ayahna Amarasinghe will captain the Ladies’ College team, while Mehansa Jayaratne will lead the Visakha Vidyalaya side. Last year, Flower Road School, representing Ladies’ College, clinched the trophy with a decisive 14-6 win. Historically, Visakha Vidyalaya has had the upper hand with 11 victories out of 19 editions, compared to six wins for Ladies’ College. The tournaments in 2020 and 2021 were not held due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
For Ladies’ College, vice-captain Chrishael Robin will play a key role in the Bar position. The team also boasts several experienced players, including Treasa Adams, Aneeka Sumanathilake, Sitaraah Zuhair, Tharuki Kalansooriya, and Karishma Hewavisenti.
Visakha Vidyalaya, led by Mehansa Jayaratne, will look to Arani Dorabawila, who will serve as vice-captain, along with Rohansa Vidyaratne, Thiyumi Gunawardena, Poojani Wijesinghe, Ruwanya Dadagamuwa, and Divya Aluthgama to secure victory.
The day’s events will start with an Under-15 match at 2:30 PM, followed by the main encounter at 4:30 PM. Sachini Ratanayake, the 2011 Ladies’ College water polo captain, will be the chief guest at the awards presentation.
