COLOMBO: (ePRESS) – Sri Lanka’s squash star Ravindu Laksiri and India’s rising talent Anahat Singh emerged victorious in the Men’s and Women’s Open Singles categories at the inaugural PSA International Challenger Squash Tournament of Sri Lanka, which was organized by Sri Lanka Squash, concluded at the Air Force Squash Complex in Ratmalana.
Laksiri, the undisputed national champion of Sri Lanka, secured his second consecutive PSA title with a dominant 3-0 win against India’s Shota Yasanuri in the Men’s Open final. The scorecard read 11/3, 11/4, and 11/6 in favor of Laksiri, showcasing his commanding performance throughout the match. Earlier in the semi-finals, Laksiri faced fellow Sri Lankan Tuwin Herath and cruised to another 3-0 victory with scores of 11/3, 11/2, and 11/3.
In the Women’s Open division, India’s top-ranked player, Anahat Singh, claimed the title by defeating Sri Lanka’s Chanithma Sinaly 3-0 in the final. The scorecard was a decisive 11/0, 11/1, and 11/4, highlighting Singh’s superiority on the court. Singh had earlier advanced to the final by defeating her compatriot Janet Vidhi 3-0, with scores of 11/3, 11/5, and 11/5. Chanithma Sinaly reached the final after overcoming Sri Lanka’s national champion Yeheni Kuruppu 3-0, with scores of 11/5, 12/10, and 11/5.
The tournament marked a key milestone for Sri Lankan squash, bringing together top talent from the region and setting the stage for future international competitions in the country.
