COLOMBO: (ePRESS) – Lavindu Premaratne and Nimasha Dahandu claimed victory in the Boys’ and Girls’ Bronze Divisions at the Sri Lanka Junior Match Play Championship 2024, organized by Sri Lanka Golf and held at the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC), was contested for the Rukmani Kodagoda Trophy.
In the Boys’ Bronze Division, Lavindu Premaratne showcased exceptional skill, defeating Revaan Amarasinghe with a score of 4 and 3. Their match was the highlight of the tournament. Despite being dormy 2 going into the 17th hole, Revaan lost both the 17th and 18th holes, leading to a sudden death playoff. Lavindu eventually secured the win with a birdie on the 21st hole after a thrilling battle.
In the Girls’ Bronze Division, Nimasha Dahandu achieved a narrow victory with a 1 up win over Vihara Herath.
This year’s championship, marking its ninth edition, attracted around 100 junior golfers. The tournament, sponsored by Perera and Sons, plays a crucial role in nurturing young golfing talent in Sri Lanka.
