Lyceum Gampaha clinches Girls Junior National Championship with record-breaking performance

COLOMBO: (ePRESS) – Lyceum International School Gampaha has clinched the Girls Junior National Championship once more, marking back-to-back victories at the Long Course National Swimming Championship,  organized by the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union (SLASU), concluded last week at the Sugathadasa Stadium Swimming Pool.

The junior girls from Lyceum Gampaha delivered an outstanding performance, amassing 485 points and setting a new junior national record in the 4x100m Medley Relay. The relay team, consisting of Anuththara Jayasundara, Pavani Galagedara, Induwary Wickramarathne, and Yunaya Perera, won the gold medal.

Lyceum International School Gampaha’s junior girls excelled in the five-day meet, capturing a total of 15 medals. The team secured two gold medals, nine silver medals, and four bronze medals, displaying their dominance and versatility in the pool to win their consecutive Junior National Championships in girls’ category.

Pavani Galagedara shone brightly, securing a gold medal in the 200m Breaststroke and adding bronze medals in the 100m and 50m Breaststroke. Yunaya Perera excelled in freestyle events, winning five silver medals in the 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, and 800m Freestyle.

Keyara Ranepura made significant contributions, winning silver in the 1500m Freestyle and bronze in the 800m and 400m Freestyle events. Govindi Dharmawardhana finished 5th in the 200m Butterfly, 6th in the 1500m Freestyle, and 8th in the 800m Freestyle.

Anuththara Jayasundara achieved 5th place in the 200m Backstroke and 7th in the 200m Freestyle. Induwary Wickramarathne contributed with a 4th place finish in the 50m Breaststroke and 7th in the 100m Breaststroke, also competing in the 100m Butterfly, finishing 8th.

A.N. Sathsarani played a role in the team’s success with an 8th place finish in the 1500m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly. The A Team excelled in relay events, securing silver medals in both the Junior Girls’ 4x100m Freestyle and 4x50m Freestyle relays. The B Team finished 6th in the 4x100m Freestyle, 5th in the 4x100m Medley, and 7th in the 4x50m Freestyle. The 4x50m Medley Relay saw the A Team finishing 6th.

In the Senior Women’s category, Lyceum International School Gampaha achieved an overall 9th place. Shenushi Vihanga stood out with 2nd place in the 200m Backstroke and 3rd place in the 200m Butterfly and 100m Backstroke. She also finished 5th in the 400m Individual Medley and 8th in the 200m Individual Medley. Kithumi Nandasoma made her mark with a 7th place finish in the 100m Backstroke.

The Junior Boys’ team also performed well, achieving an overall 8th place. Dulaksha Ganidu earned the bronze medal in the 200m Freestyle and finished 5th in the 50m, 100m, and 400m Freestyle events, as well as 8th in the 50m Backstroke. Kewan Ranepura secured the bronze medal in the 1500m Freestyle and added 7th place in the 200m Freestyle and 8th place in the 800m Freestyle.

Lyceum International School Gampaha marked a special occasion with their swimming program’s success, thanks to the guidance of Principal Ms. Thilanka Karunaratne and Head of Sports Tharaka Thennakoon. The team also benefited from the support of Chandima Rupasinghe (Teacher In Charge), Sakuni Jayakody (Teacher In Charge), Kamal Jayarathna (Coach), Sashika Perera (Coach), and Narada de Mel (Coach). Their collective efforts were instrumental in the team’s outstanding performance at the Long Course National Swimming Championship.
