At the 28th Inter-International School Swimming Championship, held at Sugathadasa Stadium Swimming Pool and organized by the Asian International School, Lyceum International School Wattala clinched the top spot for the 10th time in a row. They outperformed 21 international schools in TISSL, leading the medal count in the competition officiated by the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union.
Guided by captains Yonal de Silva and Sehanya Jayasinghe, the team from Lyceum International School Wattala secured an impressive total of 29 gold medals, 30 silver medals, and 18 bronze medals. Their remarkable tally of 77 medals over the two-day event stood out, with 844 swimmers participating in the competition.
Competing in five age groups for both boys and girls (Under-10, Under-12, Under-14, Under-16, and Under-20), Lyceum International School Wattala dominated by claiming three age group championship titles out of the available 10. Notably, they secured the Under-12 Boys and Girls Championships and the Under-14 Girls Championship.
Jehan Warnasinghe exhibited a stellar performance in the Under-12 Boys category, winning three gold medals in 50m Freestyle, 50m Breaststroke, and 50m Backstroke, contributing significantly to their championship title in that category.
In the same age group, Inuki Muthuhetti showcased dominance in the girls’ category, securing three gold medals in 200m IM, 50m Breaststroke, and 50m Backstroke, further solidifying Lyceum’s grip on the Under-12 age group championships.
Moving to the Under-14 age category, Dilushi Dilshara emerged as the champion, securing two gold medals and one silver medal. Dilshara claimed gold in 200m IM and 100m Breaststroke, along with a silver medal in 50m Breaststroke. The impressive performance across various age groups reaffirms Lyceum International School Wattala’s position as a powerhouse in swimming competitions.
The success of Lyceum International School Wattala in the 28th Inter-International School Swimming Championship is attributed not only to the exceptional performance of the athletes but also to the dedicated coaching staff guiding them. Led by ace swimming coach Jullian Bolling, the coaching team includes Head Coach Mohamed Imran, along with Assistant Coaches Pradeep Sanjeewa Perera, Hazni Hamed, and Badarage Kulaweera.
Dilrukshi Dalugama, serving as the Teacher-in-charge, contributes to the holistic support and guidance provided to the swimmers. The cohesive efforts of the coaching staff have played a crucial role in fostering the athletes’ skills and achieving remarkable results in the championship.
