SSC, Colombo: (ePRESS) – Gehansa Methnadi and Venuli Jayasinghe stole the spotlight in the girls’ Under-18 quarterfinals of the C L Synergy SSC Open 2025 Tennis Championship played at the SSC courts in Colombo.
Methnadi fought through a tough three-set match to defeat Vinethya Dharmarathne 6/2, 6/7, 10/7, while Jayasinghe dominated her opponent, Sanuthi Wong, with a commanding 6/0, 6/0 win.
Methnadi’s battle against Dharmarathne as she quickly took the first set before a fierce comeback from Dharmarathne leveled the match. However, Methnadi held strong in the decisive match tiebreak to secure her spot in the semifinals. On the other hand, Jayasinghe’s flawless performance against Wong demonstrated her clinical precision, leaving her opponent with no opportunities to break through.
Meanwhile, Dulkini Ranasinghe edged out Githmi Fernando in a tense encounter, overcoming a first-set loss to win 2/6, 7/5, 10/6. Sandithi Usgodaarachchi also booked her place in the semifinals with a 6/3, 6/1 win over Diyana De Silva.
In the men’s doubles quarterfinals, Dhilvan Herath and Apna Perera proved too strong for Alexsan Yogendren and Kevin Fernando, winning 6/2, 6/0. Dumindu Dilum and Chehan Fernando triumphed over Matheesha Nettasinghe and Sandas Usgodaarachchi 6/3, 6/2. Beeshwaran Balaratnarajah and Jagath Gamage also displayed impressive teamwork to defeat Ashmal Mohamed and Ranida Ranaweera 6/1, 6/2.
The doubles competition will continue with the highly anticipated semifinal matchups: Dhilvan Herath/Apna Perera against Methika Wickramasinghe/Ruwan Gunawardana, and Dumindu Dilum/Chehan Fernando facing Beeshwaran Balaratnarajah/Jagath Gamage.
As the girls’ Under-18 semifinal lineup is set, Gehansa Methnadi, Sandithi Usgodaarachchi, Venuli Jayasinghe, and Dulkini Ranasinghe will be eager to battle for the championship title.
