COLOMBO, May 7 (ePRESS) – Sri Lanka’s 200m breaststroke long course national record holder MF Muhammad of Zahira College Colombo once again underlined his class by emerging as the Under-20 champion with four gold medals at the 50th HNB National Age Group Swimming Championship worked off at the Sugathadasa Swimming Pool Complex in Colombo recently. The meet was organised by the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union (SLASU).

Training under Killer Whale Aquatics, Muhammad competed mainly to test his form and fitness, but still dominated several events despite scratching three finals after topping the heats with the fastest timings across all age groups.

The talented swimmer impressed in the 50m butterfly event, where he finished first in the heats while recording the best timing among all age groups. However, he later scratched the final.

Muhammad continued his superb performances in the 100m butterfly final, winning the gold medal while once again producing the fastest timing across all age groups.

In the 100m backstroke, he topped the heats with the best overall timing among all age groups before scratching the final.

He then went on to secure gold in the 50m freestyle final, recording the third-best timing among all age groups despite the competition being conducted without touch pads and relying only on manual timings.

Muhammad also produced the best timing across all age groups in the 100m freestyle before winning the final comfortably to add another gold medal to his tally.

The breaststroke specialist also showed his strength in his favourite discipline. He clocked the best timing in all age groups in the 50m breaststroke heats before scratching the final.

In the 100m breaststroke final, Muhammad capped another outstanding meet by winning gold with the best timing among all age groups, reaffirming his status as one of Sri Lanka’s leading young swimmers.

His commanding performances across butterfly, freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke events highlighted his versatility and proved why he remains one of the brightest prospects in Sri Lankan swimming.
