COLOMBO, Mar 29, 6.45AM – Chalitha Pushpika of the Sri Lanka Navy emerged victorious in the National Ranking Tournament hosted by Sri Lanka Golf at the Royal Colombo Golf Club. Pushpika’s exceptional performance, marked by a stunning two under-par round, left spectators in awe as he clinched the title with an impressive 10-shot lead over his closest competitor.
Throughout the tournament, Pushpika showcased his prowess on the course, delivering consistently strong performances across four rounds. With rounds of 72, 73, 70, and a remarkable 69 gross in the final round, Pushpika secured a total gross score of 284, firmly establishing himself as the frontrunner.
His nearest rival, Reshan Algama, the current World Amateur Golf Ranking leader, also exhibited exceptional skill, posting a commendable one under-par round of 70 in the final leg. However, Algama’s total gross of 294 was unable to match Pushpika’s commanding lead.
Among the other notable contenders was teaching professional Priya Hemantha, who carded a solid 74 gross, finishing with a total gross of 299 and securing the third spot on the podium, just two shots behind Algama.
Yannik Kumar also put on an impressive performance, concluding the tournament with a total gross of 304 after a strong final round of 76 gross. Meanwhile, the young talent Adithya Weerasinghe from Anuradhapura Golf Club showcased his potential by securing the fifth position with a final round score of 76, followed closely by Uchitha Ranasinghe in sixth place with a total gross of 305.
In recognition of their outstanding achievements, Sri Lanka Golf awarded cash prizes to the top performers of the tournament. Pushpika rightfully claimed the first prize, with Algama settling for second place and Hemantha securing third place honors.
