Navy’s Pushpika sails to third straight win on tricky Victoria greens

Chalitha Pushpika 1 23

DIGANA, Kandy, April 10, 2025 (ePRESS) – Sri Lanka Navy golfer Chalitha Pushpika secured his third straight victory in the Sri Lanka Golf Ranking Tournament series by winning the April edition at the picturesque Victoria Golf Resort in Digana.

Pushpika, who had never before won three consecutive titles in his career, carded an even-par 73 in the final round to finish with a total gross score of 219. It was enough to seal the win by just a single stroke over teaching professional Priya Hemantha, who fired a brilliant three-under 70 in the final round to finish on 220.

“This is a very special moment for me,” said Pushpika. “Winning three in a row is something I’ve always dreamed of. It’s not easy, but I stayed focused and trusted my game.”

In the final round, Pushpika made four birdies, four bogeys, and ten pars to stay steady and hold off the challenge. Despite a slight setback with a 75 in the second round, his consistency across the three days kept him at the top.

The overnight leader, K. Dhanushan of Royal Colombo Golf Club, could not maintain his lead, finishing with a 77 in the final round and ending on 223 overall.

Young star Reshan Algama, fresh off his international win at the Robert Rock Junior Masters in the UAE, did not perform up to expectations. Although he carded the day’s third-best round of 75, his total of 229 placed him fifth. Just ahead of him was the experienced Chanaka Perera, who finished with 228 after a final-round 79.

Other top ten finishers included Kushal Johnpillai (229), Uchitha Ranasinghe (233), Adithya Weerasinghe (236), PDSU Kumara (236), and Sachin de Silva (238).

In the women’s competition, Sithara Lorance emerged victorious with a total gross score of 272 after carding a 90 in the final round. She held off SS Sumanarathana, who finished just two strokes behind with 274. HN Navinachandra completed the top three with a total of 280.
