In a stellar performance at the All-Island Schools Games 2023, D.A.D.G. Peramune from Vidyaraja Vidyalaya, Ratnapura, representing Uva Province, claimed the championship in the 21km half marathon. Peramune dominated the race, clocking an impressive 1 hour, 16 minutes, and 22 seconds to secure the top spot without much competition.
S. Keeran of Mulankavil Maha Vidyalaya, Kilinochchi, from the Northern Province, finished a commendable second, trailing Peramune by exactly one minute among the 300-plus participants. E.G. Lasitha Pradeep of Ukpitiya Maha Vidyalaya, Uva Province, secured the third position with a time of 1 hour, 18 minutes, and 13 seconds.
The top three finishers showcased exceptional athleticism in the challenging half marathon, with others closely following suit. The event, organized by Nestlé Nestomalt in partnership with the Ministry of Education, marked the successful conclusion of this year’s All-Island School Games. Over 300 runners from all nine provinces participated in the half marathon, while an additional 5km display marathon drew the enthusiastic participation of 1400 individuals.
