Sri Lanka’s Junior Golf Program Hits a Milestone with PRIMA’s Support

The PRIMA-sponsored Sri Lanka Junior Open Golf Championship 2023 and Regional Junior Open 2024 Tournaments are set to grace the Royal Colombo Golf Club from December 20 to 22. This golf extravaganza, the mainstay of Sri Lanka’s junior golf program, is about to mark its 15th year, supported consistently by PRIMA’s flagship brand, Sunrise bread, it was announced at a press briefing held at Royal Colombo Golf Club on Wednesday.

Teeing Off Excellence:

The tournament commences with the participation of 10 foreign players in the Open Gold Division, promising a fierce competition and a platform for earning World Ranking Points. The Royal Colombo Golf Club, a picturesque backdrop, will host this pinnacle event that showcases the future stars of Sri Lankan golf.

A 15-Year Partnership Milestone:

PRIMA’s enduring partnership with Sri Lanka Golf, marked by 15 years of continuous sponsorship, is a confirmation to their commitment to nurturing junior golf talent in the country. The tournament, a beacon for young and upcoming golfers, has evolved into a crucial milestone in the journey of golf development in Sri Lanka.

From Humble Beginnings to International Glory:

The journey began in 2008 with PRIMA’s Sunrise bread brand, and today, it stands as a symbol of progress. Ms. Niloo Jayathilake, the Chairperson of the Junior Sub Committee at Sri Lanka Golf, reminisces about the humble start, where 60 kids played in different age group categories. This year, the tournament boasts 10 international entries, underlining the positive trajectory in the development of golf.

Stiff Competition and National Titles:

The competition for the coveted titles promises to be intense. The Open Category winners, both boys and girls, will be adorned with the prestigious Junior National Title. With international players from India adding to the challenge, Sri Lanka’s juniors will need to bring their A-game to clinch the championship.

Expressing gratitude, Mr. Sajith Gunaratne, General Manager of Ceylon Agro Industries Ltd, Prima Group Sri Lanka, stated, “As the long-standing partner in supporting junior golf in Sri Lanka, we are pleased to sponsor the Junior Open Golf Tournament once again this year. This tournament is crucial for the development of young golfers, and we look forward to witnessing some high-standing golf.”
