Reshan Algama reigns, Chalitha Pushpika rockets up the WAGR

COLOMBO (ePRESS): Chalitha Pushpika, representing the Sri Lanka Navy, has made a significant jump in the latest World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR). Pushpika’s ranking soared from 1043 to 885, marking an impressive climb of 158 places. He now holds Sri Lanka’s second position, trailing behind junior golfer Reshan Algama, of Royal Colombo Golf Club, who leads the ranking with 563 in the world. As a junior golfer, Algama ascended 35 places from his previous position of 598 in the latest WAGR issued by the International Golf Federation.

In a significant achievement, Reshan Algama, a remarkable 15-year-old golfer from Colombo International School, impressed everyone by finishing as the runner-up in the recent Sri Lanka Golf National Ranking Tournament. He displayed his skills over four rounds of play, earning recognition for his exceptional performance.

Pushpika’s advancement in the rankings is remarkable, after conclusions of Sri Lanka Golf National Raking Tournament winner last week. At just 15 years old, Reshan Algama, representing the Royal Colombo Golf Club, continues to maintain his dominance as the top-ranked golfer in Sri Lanka, holding the first position in the WAGR for the past six months.

Meanwhile, Uchitha Ranasinghe of the Royal Colombo Golf Club has slipped 16 positions in the WAGR, currently occupying the third spot in Sri Lanka with a ranking of 1012.

Chanaka Perera, previously ranked second with a WAGR of 899, has now fallen to fourth place after dropping 143 places. Perera’s current ranking stands at 1042.

Haroon Aslam, based in the US, maintains his position at 1678 in the WAGR without any change, while Yannik Kumara has descended 59 places to 2539, securing the sixth spot in Sri Lanka.

Further down the rankings, K Dhanushan holds the seventh place with a WAGR of 2843, followed by Nirekh Tejwani in eighth place with 3066. Ruwan Jayasinghe occupies the ninth position with a ranking of 3295, and Gajendiran Dhanaranjan rounds up the top ten with a WAGR of 3953.
