HAMBANTOTA: (ePRESS) – Sri Lanka’s top-ranked World Amateur Golf Ranker (WAGR) Reshan Algama delivered a commanding performance on Saturday, the Day Two of the Hambantota Regional Junior Open Golf Championship, organized by Sri Lanka Golf, sponsored by Prima Sunrise Bread. With a remarkable 3-under par round of 67, Algama surged to the top of the leaderboard, extending his lead by five shots as the championship heads into its final day at Shangri-La Hambantota.
After a tough first round of 80, the 16-year-old Algama made an impressive comeback on Day Two. His performance, marked by birdies and precise course management on the back nine, displayed his maturity and technical skill, far beyond his years. This stunning turnaround highlights his resilience and ability to capitalize on opportunities, establishing his position as a standout player in the tournament.
Algama now leads with an overall score of 147 (80, 67), five shots ahead of Royal Colombo Golf Club’s champion Yannik Kumara (152), who posted rounds of 76 and 76, and Day One leader Jevahn Sathasivam (152), who carded 75 and 77. H.D. Adithya Weerasinghe follows closely with a total of 153 (77, 76). Despite strong competition, Algama’s flawless round on Day 2 sets the stage for an exciting finish.

In the Girls’ Gold Division, Kaya Daluwatte continued her dominance with consistent rounds of 69, giving her an impressive total of 138. She leads by a staggering 50 shots over Sithara Lorance, who stands at 188 after rounds of 92 and 96. Daluwatte’s outstanding performance firmly establishes her as the leader in the girls’ division.
In the younger divisions, Abiman Abeywardhana leads the Boys’ Copper Division with a total of 74, while Vihara Herath leads the Girls’ Bronze Division with a score of 126.
As the championship moves into its final day, all eyes are on Algama to see if he can maintain his composure and secure a victory.
