Colombo, Jan 9, 6.50PM – Sri Lanka’s talented junior golfers, Reshan Algama and K Danushan, stole the spotlight on the first day of the Srixon RCGC Junior Open Golf Championship at the Royal Colombo Golf Club. Reshan Algama claimed the top spot, with K Danushan closely following in second place with 71 gross score each in the prestigious Gold Division.
Jevahn Sathasivam, the Junior Open Champion, secured the third position with a solid gross score of 73. Yannik Kumara and Kvahn Tejwani both scored 74, earning them the fourth and fifth spots among the 12 participants in the Gold Division, where players under the age of 19 displayed their skills in the 18-hole competition.
In the Under-15 Silver Division, Varun Fernando led the pack with a gross score of 75, while T Deshan secured the second position with a score of 77. Keshav Algama, Adithya Weerasinghe, and Kaweesha Sandaruwan rounded out the top five with identical scores of 79. Keya Abhayaratne emerged as the top female player in this category, posting a gross score of 105.
Moving on to the Bronze Division in the Under-13 age category, Shenal Nimsith dominated the Boys Yellow Markers with a top score of 58 in the 14-hole play. Lavindu Premarathne and Lithum Silva secured the second and third positions with scores of 62 and 66, respectively. Udeera Bandara of Anuradhapura Gold Academy claimed the fourth spot with a score of 70, competing against 11 players, including two females. Nimasha Dahamdi led the girls with a score of 85 in the Yellow Markers.
In the Copper Division’s Under-10 Blue Markers 9-hole play, Revaan Amarasinghe took the lead with an impressive gross score of 32. Jaidon Herath, Jaeden Sathasivam, and Abiman Abeywardhane of Anuradhapura secured the third and fourth positions with identical scores of 42. Vihara Herath and Hesandi Gayansa Meepawala topped the Girls Blue Markers with scores of 49 and 50, claiming the overall 6th and 7th positions in the 13-member division.
